Vince was our fire keeper. He did an excellent job keeping us toasty. He also brought one of his special types of bread and loved on it a while before baking it for us. Yummy.
There were plenty of bedrooms and all the kids were excited to have their buddy from the opposite family to bunk up with.
We had lots of extra time for baking cookies and treats - and lots of extra helpers too!
The house had several bedrooms upstairs, a master suite side with an upstairs loft, and a basement with bunk beds and a game room. There was plenty to do for everyone!

The Polar Express and Fun in Durango
The time for our weekend getaway with the Haslams had arrived and we were all very excited!! We rented a beautiful cabin at the base of the mountains, just outside of Durango. It was a gorgeous winter wonderland!! The roads were clear when we got there, and then it snowed us in that night. It was perfect.

It is so dreamy to have a vacation with the family, but also lots of adult time too when the kids are off playing. It was so fun and relaxing.
Being outdoors playing in the snow was the highlight of the trip for the kids. They were out there for hours every day. There was a huge boulder out behind the house that turned into their sliding hill. They also created an ice shop, built snowmen, and played their little cold hearts out. This trip inspired me to finally invest in some really good snow gear for my kids.
And when they needed a little thawing out, there was always time for the hot tub, perler beads, games, dance parties, and lots of snacks!
Saturday night we ventured out of the house for dinner, a little shopping, and the Polar Express (hence the reason all the children were in their pjs)!! It was quite brave and crazy taking this crew to a nice restaurant, but they did great!! We went to a local honey store, walked through a couple shops on main street, including a toy store where they gave all the kids a free kazoo (oh boy!). We finished our tour at the chocolate factory and each picked out a treat for the train ride!
Even before experiencing the train ride, Jude has been really obsessed with trains lately and has mastered his "toot toot" train whistle. We heard this sweet sound A LOT throughout this trip.
The excitement was really building for the Polar Express! We were a few minutes early - so the chocolates never made it on the ride. We were able to go through the museum first though and there was a lot of interesting things to see!
This was the perfect year to return to the Polar Express - the oldest weren't too old yet, and the youngest were old enough to be really excited. It really was so magical and fun to see the excitement in all the kids. They squealed with excitement as the conductor was punching their golden ticket. More squealing and laughing when the workers sang and danced before delivering hot chocolate and cookies - and of course, screams of excitement when Santa boarded the train. Having this experience with friends made it even more fun.
After the ride we finished the night visiting the reindeer and then off to bed we went!
Overall it was an excellent and memorable weekend. The time to relax, play, and just be very present felt SO good. We are so grateful for the time spent with the Haslams too. Good friends are hard to find, and these are some of the best. Goodbye beautiful cabin! Thank you for the great memories!
