This is Brad, stepping in to put Lisa in the spot light for a little bit. She spends so much time taking care of us that her important life sometimes gets overlooked.
Lisa is quite possibly the most others-focused person I know. She gives herself to the kids and me every day.
When I come home there is always a hot, home-cooked meal ready. She constantly is looking for new recipes and ideas. For example, last Sunday she made steak tacos for the first time. Very good stuff! She's also got a knack for ad-libbing existing recipes to make them taste better.
Lisa is a learner. She studies books, reads blogs, tries activities, researches school options, and ask friends how she can be better. There have been tons of times when the kids something crazy, Lisa starts using magic words from a book she read, and the problem is solved. I often wonder, "How'd she know that would work?"
The kids adore her. Throughout the day I get random picture texts of their activities--painting, shaving cream, water adventures, dance parties, wagon rides, sleep coma moments, craft experiments, school adventures, and on.
She is getting ready for baby number three. After much debate, two names have been picked out for our little girl. We will wait until she is born and then decide. Lisa has handled this pregnancy with grace and poise. She doesn't get to sleep very well, but you wouldn't know it by seeing her. Her belly button is starting to protrude, attracting the poking fingers of our children.
At Church Lisa is a champ. My calling pulls me a lot of directions, causing her to sit alone in sacrament. And to think, a third one, under age 5, is joining the mix. Yikes!
The kids and I love Lisa. We are so happy we have her!
Happy Valentines Day!

Bentley Update
This little guy loves himself some media time. Whether it's watching TV or playing on my phone, he is hooked the second it's on. I have to go every Monday morning to get my Progesterone injections for the pregnancy and I gave him my phone to help keep him entertained while we waited. Now he has learned the routine and I pull into the parking lot and he says "Mommy poke time". As soon as we walk in the door he says "Mommy sit down" and then sticks out his hand "OK phone." He then proceeds to play it until the poke is done and then he gives it back and heads for the car. It's pretty cute.
This picture was taken before I moved him into the big bed in Eden's room, but I still can't resist cute sleeping pictures. He loved falling asleep with his light on and I loved always getting a last good look at him before I went to bed each night.
Bentley got the trains and train table for Christmas so that morning we had it out in our family room with all the gifts from Christmas. It wasn't meant to stay there, but that table still sits in my living room today and is a huge hit. I plan to move it upstairs, but right now they play with it so much and I know if I move it upstairs they won't play with it unless I'm up there too. So in the meantime, it still sits in our living room and is very well loved.
He still loves taking baths and playing in the water. I'm really looking forward to all the fun water play that we will experience this summer!
He loves to climb around on the furniture and follow Ruby up into the window. He also loves when he has food in his hands because Ruby will follow him around everywhere he goes and he thinks it's such a fun game. So far he doesn't seem to realize it's because of the food and he doesn't ever really end up giving her any, but she does a great job of cleaning up the crumbs he drops as they run around. He thinks it's hilarious and is entertained, and Ruby cleans for me - tt's a win-win for everyone involved.
Bentley has the best belly laugh. When he gets going, his laugh is so contagious and adorable. He is super ticklish so it's easy to get him going that way. He also thinks his cousin Jaxon is really funny and quite often gets a good laugh going when Jaxon is around.
For whatever reason, he has decided he doesn't like his middle name James. If we ever call him Bentley James, he yells, "NO JAMES!"
Bentley calls me "Lisa" now, especially if we have friends over and he hears them call me that. Also, if he is trying to get my attention by saying mom and I don't answer fast enough, he then starts calling me Lisa. He thinks it's pretty funny. He also says, "one second mom" when I ask him to do something. It never ends up being just one second though of course because he keeps saying "one second mom" for a long time as he continues whatever he is doing. Sometimes it really drives me crazy, and then I remember that he totally learned that from me!
Bentley talks so good and so much! Often times people are surprised at his age because he talks so well. He can pretty much communicate everything with me now, and is talking in sentences which is great. He just continues to surprise me with all the things he says and how well he communicates.
He is very polite and has such good manners! 99% of the time he is sure to say, "Thank you" or "Your welcome" and if I forget to have good manners and say "your welcome" after he has thanked me for something, than he says "your welcome mom" until I say it. He also says "Bless you" when someone sneezes and is very quick to say "Sorry" if someone gets hurt.
He loves colors and shapes. Sometimes he is completely off and says crazy things, but most of the time he can identify the basic colors when I ask him (green, red, blue, purple, orange, yellow), and he knows quite a few shapes and likes to point them out when he sees them (circle, star, diamond, oval, square, triangle). He also loves to count things and can count up to 14, except he does always skip 13. :)
He LOVES to sing and knows the words to quite a few songs. His nursery leaders at church tell me how much they love having him in singing time because he sings so loud and good. His favorite songs right, that he can pretty much sing in their entirety, are, "I am a Child of God" "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Rock a Bye, Don't You Cry". He also sings along to quite a few songs on the radio when we are in the car, but it's usually just parts of the chorus, or the last word of the sentences. It's so cute, and very impressive! Quite often as I'm driving, a new song will come on the radio and he excitedly says, "Oh I like this song!" and when it's over he says, "Yay! Good song!"
He is so funny and goofy. He loves to be silly and make us laugh. He is definitely more outgoing and crazy when it's just us at home though. He seems a little more reserved and calm when we are around lots of people, but he definitely isn't shy like his momma and sister!
He always gets so excited to pick Eden up from school. He waits right outside the door and as soon as the teacher opens it he goes running in screaming, "Hi Dee Dee!" and he will not let her get away without a hug and a kiss hello. She doesn't necessarily love it (I think because it draws a lot of attention and everyone watches and it kind of embarrasses her), but she usually gives in to his persistence and gives him a hug and kiss. It's one of those moments that just melts my mommy heart. :)
A lot of times before he takes a nap he asks me to rock him for a minute, which I absolutely love. He snuggles up to me and we sing a couple songs together. Then it usually always ends like this:
B: in a whisper, "mom"
me: "what"
B: "I Love you"
Me: "I love you to precious boy"
B: "Bed now"
Me: "Ok let's go to your bed. Sweet dreams"
I can't imagine life without Bentley. He is just so precious to me that I can't really even put it into words. He will always be my little baby boy. I love him to pieces and am so grateful that he is mine.

Eden Update
Eden and Ruby are really good little buddies. I often will have Ruby in the car to surprise Eden when I pick her up from school and she loves having Ruby sit on her lap. She has also loved having Ruby go to sleep with her at night lately. She gets her tucked in under the blanket and they fall asleep together. We end up getting Ruby out when we go to bed at night and she never wants to leave that cozy spot next to Eden. It's cute.
Eden LOVES makeup. She does a pretty good job applying it herself, never too crazy and over the top. :)
Like most little girls, she is in love with Elsa from "Frozen" and the song she sings "Let it go". She sings it over and over again and knows all the words perfectly. She also takes it very seriously and learned from her Sunshine Generation class to open her mouth big and wide when she sings so she can be louder. She has definitely got that part down. :) Before she got an actual Elsa dress up costume, she used one of her church dresses with a blanket tucked in the back as the train of the dress.
We went to Payless to find Bentley some new church shoes and she got very distracted by the big high heels. I watched her for a while as she tried on pair after pair and these tall black sparkly ones were her favorite, even though she never dared to stand up straight once she had them on. She was very disappointed and sad that I wouldn't buy them for her.
She still loves to do any kind of crafts or projects. This particular day she was using baking soda and colored vinegar to make a bubbly and colorful Valentine's heart. This picture is particularly cute to me because it shows her cute outfit which she picked herself and would pick to wear everyday if she could. I also think she has the most precious and beautiful face. I love her.
Whenever Annie and the girls are over, Eden always makes sure she gets some good play time with Claire. She loves to make her smile and laugh. I'm so excited to see Eden with her baby sister - I think she is going to be so great with her!
In the last few months Eden has really started to enjoy having a friend play with (that's NOT me!). It's been such a nice transition. Not too long ago I would talk about inviting a friend over to play and she would always say no, but now she asks to play and have someone over, or she even asks to go play at Makalya's house sometimes. I have been so happy with the progress with her social skills. She does get intimidated if it's a group of kids and will usually withdraw and come back to where I am, but she is making significant progress and I'm so happy! She has also made good progress at school and has a couple girls that she consistently plays with when they go outside. Earlier in the year, she would often sit in a chair on the patio and watch the other kids play, but now she goes out and plays with friends. It makes me so happy to know she is overcoming some of those fears and anxieties. She still needs more time to gain more confidence, especially in group settings, but she has made great progress. Academically she is doing amazing and is learning so fast.
Eden and Bentley have also become better friends and it makes me so happy! Don't get me wrong, they definitely fight and have some rivalry sometimes, but they actually play and laugh together now which is great progress. She can be very thoughtful and sweet with him and hearing them laughing and playing together is definitely one of my favorite things.
Eden loves to play dress up and has lots of dresses to choose from. Her favorite is her Elsa dress though and that's the one she is most often wearing.
Eden is very loving and affectionate. She especially loves her daddy and has him wrapped around her little finger. :)
She is such a good eater these days that I still find myself marveling over her tremendous progress. I can't believe that about 1 1/2 years ago we were at the intensive feeding therapy in Denver and we left there with her still refusing to eat anything. Now she is really good about trying new things and will usually eat pretty much whatever we give her. She definitely has a sweet tooth and loves to share treats with her daddy in the evenings. It's such an amazing miracle, one of the many that we have seen with her.
She loves her cousins so much and is always making things for them.
She still wears some 3T clothes, but is mostly in 4T. She wears a size 7 shoe still which is pretty tiny for kids her age. Her hands and feet are small and adorable.
As part of the family Christmas gifts, I printed out blog books which contain all the posts and stories from our lives from 2009 through 2012. Eden has probably loved them more than anyone. She loves to sit and look through the books and see all the fun pictures. She quite often asks us to read the words to her, and asks lots of questions about what's going on in some of the pictures. We have had quite a few good conversations about her history as she has come upon some of the pictures of her in the hospital after surgeries, etc. She doesn't seem to remember a lot of it, which I think is a good thing, but despite some of the pictures being a little tough to look at, she doesn't seem fazed by it at all and is actually quite proud of herself. It's been really neat going through the books with her and telling her more about what's gone on since she came into our family.
As far as current medical stuff is concerned, it has been pretty smooth sailing for a while. The opthamologist continues to monitor her optic nerves for swelling. She is on a medication for it and the last time we were there the swelling was down and everything looked good. She has another follow up this week, which is the first in three months, so hopefully everything there will still look good.
She still goes to speech therapy weekly but has made tremendous progress with her articulation and speech. She has some issues with "S" blends, but with more time and practice that should work itself out. Her therapist feels like there really isn't a lot to work on until her trach comes out. At that point she will need some therapy to help her with her breath control and speaking while exhaling, things like that - but overall she is doing amazing.
We are still waiting to hear back and find out details, but I think the plan is to be in Denver this April to get her airway checked out. When we saw Dr. Prager last fall, the plan for this spring was to do a bronchoscopy to measure her airway and check for growth. He also wanted to remove some scar tissue at that time. If all looked good, and her airway has grown, he was planning to remove the trach. So we may have some HUGE changes this spring, but we won't know until that day what will happen. We are anxious and have guarded optimism. :)
Eden brings so much joy and life into our family. She has, and continues to teach me so much. She is so amazing and fun and has such a generous spirit. I love her to pieces and can't imagine our family without her.

The funny things kids say...
The other day Eden and Bentley were over by her craft table in the office and I was around the corner in the bathroom doing my makeup when I overheard this little conversation:
Eden: "Bentley don't stand on that"
Bentley: "No Dee Dee"
Eden: "Ok you can stand on it but it might fall"
(silence for a few seconds in which it's obvious Bentley didn't get down)
Eden: "Ok but that's not the right choice!"
I had to chuckle, and experienced a little bit of a proud parenting moment as I overheard Eden mimic me in the way that I often allow them to make choices despite my warnings of potential consequences. It was cute.
I've learned though that they don't always just mimic the cute stuff! I've often heard Bentley say, "Oh Shoot!" Or "Darn it!" And Ruby doesn't bark in the house often, but when she does I yell "Ruby stop it!" so now if Ruby makes any noise at all, Bentley yells "Ruby stop it!" and it doesn't sound very cute. :)
The other night we were driving in the car somewhere and I didn't want Eden to fall asleep. It had been quiet for too long so I said, "Hey Eden, are you sleeping?" She said no, and then to just try to keep a conversation going I kept asking her questions like, "Are you happy?" "Are you funny" etc. Now quite often when we are in the car, if it's quiet for a minute Bentley says, "Hey Dee Dee, you sleeping?" She says no, and they he says, "You happy?" And then he celebrates and gets so excited when she says she is happy. It was really funny and cute the first few times, but now it drives Eden crazy and she gets so frustrated. He doesn't seem to mind though and I still find it very cute. :)
Today I was redirecting Bentley from climbing the bookshelves and he wasn't listening or getting down as I asked him too. Eden tried intervening and bossing him around, which she often does. I said, "Hey Eden, I'm the mom and I'll handle it. Thank you though." To which she replied, "No I think I'll be the mom now and you can be the grandma." Nice...

Bentley and Eden are roommates!
We got a new low loft bunk bed and as of about three days ago, the kids are now sharing a room! This bed has worked out perfect because Eden can get in and out easily if she needs to go to the bathroom, and Bentley isn't up extremely high. He also doesn't ever attempt to leave the bed at night which is nice. This is Bentley's first bed aside from the crib and he has loved it! He says, "Big bed, yay!"
The sharing has actually been going a lot better than I thought it would. At night, Eden is always the first one to fall asleep. Bentley hangs out for a bit, but the first night we put him in there I told him he has to be quiet so Eden can go to sleep. Now whenever I'm putting him to bed he says, "big bed, quiet, shhhh…"
So they go to sleep together great each night and the mornings have been going good too. They were usually waking up within 30 minutes of each other before sharing, but now unless Eden wakes up first, they get up at the same time. If Eden wakes up first she very quietly sneaks out which is nice, but unfortunately she has only been the first to wake up on one of the mornings. Yesterday Bentley woke up, climbed down the ladder and was so excited to see Eden there sleeping that he couldn't help it! "Dee Dee, hi, good morning! Wake up Dee Dee! Come on!" And then we are all up and going for the day! :)
Also, fortunately, Eden is a very heavy sleeper because Bentley talks in his sleep a lot! It's been funny to hear him over the monitor. Sometimes he just says a few quick words, "Hey stop it!" was what he said the other night. And sometimes he actually sings a little bit of a song before going quiet again. It's cute, and she never hears a thing.
Now that they will be sharing a room for a little bit, I will definitely need to change up the decorations to make it a little more gender neutral. I better get on that before baby arrives!
Here are some pictures I took on their first night together. So cute!

So cute!

Pregnancy Update
I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going! I am now 34 weeks and getting crazy close to welcoming our third child! Ahhh! Sometimes I still get surprised when the baby moves, or I see my reflection and think, "Oh my goodness, I'm pregnant! This is really happening!" I'm so excited, and also so nervous for her to arrive!
Isn't she a cutie? Her little nose reminds me a lot of Bentley's.
Apparently the third time's the charm for us though because this pregnancy has been so good! I have been getting the injections of progesterone once a week, and they have done regular ultrasounds to check my cervical length and everything has been perfect. I have lots of braxton hicks contractions, but I haven't had any other complications or bleeding like I had with Eden and Bentley's pregnancies. It's been amazing and I feel so blessed (and super relieved to have escaped bed rest this time around!).
So of course it's not all super amazing, I do have heart burn A LOT and don't sleep good and it's uncomfortable, but it seems silly to complain about those things when I'm really just so grateful that it's normal pregnancy complaints instead of major drama! Everyone says now that just means we can have lots, but I'm not that brave I know that for sure!
These pictures were taken a few weeks ago when we did family pictures so I'm bigger now, but here's the evidence of pregnancy number three! Thanks Jesse for the cute shots.
Eden is so excited for her baby sister to come and asks very often if it's time yet. She has also decided that she wants to name her "Sandelia" which we have agreed to consider. :) We have a big cardboard box in our office that is full of pictures and crafts Eden has been making for the baby. She also has little ziplock bags full of random things in the box too. This baby will be spoiled by her big sister that's for sure. I'm looking forward to having a great helper!
Bentley pushes on my stomach and says, "baby" but I think that's about the extent of his interest or understanding.
Since Brad and I still haven't decided on the name, we sometimes do call her "Sandelia" ha ha. She is a very active baby and keeps my stomach moving around and bumping like crazy. Both Brad and Eden get a kick out of watching and feeling her moving around in there. She gets the hiccups a lot too which usually happens right as I'm trying to fall asleep at night. I often wonder is she will look like Eden or Bentley, or if she will be a thumb sucker too. I wonder too if we only produce one hair color on our children, or if she will have a color of her own. Eden is pretty sure she will have blue eyes just like her and daddy. There are so many fun things to look forward to and we are excited to welcome her soon!
